Patrick (Paddy) O'Toole (1 October 1938 – 30 December 2015) was an Irish Fine Gael politician who served in significant governmental and parliamentary capacities over several decades.
Political Career
O'Toole's career was primarily associated with Fine Gael, representing the interests of his constituents and contributing to national governance.
- Teachta Dála (TD): He was first elected to Dáil Éireann as a TD for the Mayo East constituency at the 1977 general election. He consistently held his seat through subsequent elections until 1989.
- Ministerial Appointments: During Fine Gael-led governments in the 1980s, O'Toole held key cabinet positions:
- Minister for the Gaeltacht (June 1981 – March 1982)
- Minister for Fisheries and Forestry and Minister for the Gaeltacht (December 1982 – February 1986)
- Minister for Defence and Minister for the Gaeltacht (February 1986 – March 1987)
- Seanad Éireann: Following the loss of his Dáil seat in 1989, Patrick O'Toole was elected to Seanad Éireann on the Agricultural Panel, serving as a Senator from 1989 to 1993.
